5-Hydroxypyridine-2-carboxylic acid is a white to off-white crystalline powder that melts at 260–264°C.The predicted boiling point is 514.9±35.0°C,and the estimated density is 1.485±0.06 g/cm³.Storage under inert gas at 2–8°C is recommended.Its UVλmax in methanol is 327 nm.The compound is stable at room temperature in dry environments but should be protected from strong oxidants,acids,and bases.The molecule exhibits chelating behavior due to the proximal hydroxyl and carboxylic acid groups.

5-Hydroxypyridine-2-carboxylic acid(CAS No.15069-92-8),also known as chelidamic acid,is a hydroxypyridine derivative capable of existing in multiple tautomeric forms(pyridone).Its structure allows it to act as a versatile bidentate chelating ligand for metal ions,making it prominent in coordination chemistry and catalysis.

 

Uses

 

1.Luminescent Lanthanide Complex Synthesis
Acts as a sensitizing antenna ligand for Eu³⁺and Tb³⁺ions,producing highly luminescent complexes used as red/green phosphors in security inks and bioimaging probes with long luminescence lifetimes.

 

2.Heterogeneous Catalyst Support
Immobilized on mesoporous silica or magnetic nanoparticles via its carboxyl group.The resulting material serves as a reusable catalyst for Knoevenagel condensations and oxidation reactions in aqueous media.

 

3.Precursor for Vitamin B6 Analogs
Used in the synthetic pathways to produce pyridoxine(Vitamin B6)derivatives,which are studied as enzyme cofactor mimics for treating certain metabolic disorders.

 

4.Corrosion Inhibitor for Copper
